What are Heat Pump Covers?

A design-specific, made-to-measure temporary cover that fits over the heat pump to keep it clean from dirt and dust. Also offering protection from light damage while any landscaping and final site work takes place.

Operation of the heat pump for commissioning and testing is still possible while using these covers.

Why use them on site?

Heat pumps are expensive appliances that sit outside. Any damage, particularly to the coating on the casing, up to the point of snagging or handover results in unnecessary expense and last-minute delays for the developer.

An additional benefit is a reduction in the time or labour required for cleaning a heat pump before homeowners take possession of their new property.

On most sites the answer is a bin liner, a roll of tape and good intentions. Or nothing at all. These are real photos from live developments: thousands of pounds of equipment left to the mud, the plant and the weather until handover.

What an exposed heat pump really costs

Between installation and handover the unit is the developer’s responsibility, and it spends that time in the roughest part of the programme.

  1. 01

    Damaged casings

Chips, scratches and scuffed coating from barrows, scaffold, plant and passing trades. Panels, or whole units, replaced before a buyer has even seen them.

  2. 02

    Contamination

Mud, dust, render and brick-cleaning acid get into the fins and fan. That means hours of cleaning at best, and corrosion or poor performance at worst.

  3. 03

    No way to commission

Plastic sheeting blocks the airflow, so it has to be cut off every time the unit is tested. It rarely goes back on.

  4. 04

    Snags and delays

A marked or dirty unit is a snag. Waiting on parts or a replacement holds up handover and completion.

  5. 05

    Disputed liability

Manufacturer warranties don’t typically cover site damage. The bill, and the argument between installer, contractor and developer, lands on the build.

  6. 06

    Reputation

The heat pump is one of the first things a homeowner sees. A scratched unit with the manufacturer’s badge on it reflects on everyone involved.

One cover costs a fraction of one replacement panel.

Made to measure, re-usable for years, and the unit can still be run for testing with the cover on.

Protect your site

High quality & durable design

Our unique covers can be re-used and last up to 4–5 years within a construction environment, offering ongoing protection for programmed works.

Buckles

Made from strong plastic, so clips slide on and off without much pressure on the release buttons.

Straps

Easily adjusted webbing keeps the roll-up flap secure while the heat pump is operational.

Material

Strong, reinforced waterproof fabric with woven polyester threads for maximum strength.

Mesh

Mesh tarps at the grill allow airflow to the fan while keeping out dirt and debris.

Velcro

With a single Velcro strip, the heat pump can still operate even if the roll-up flap is not secured.

Enhance brand awareness

Branding can be included to give greater visibility or presence on new build sites for manufacturers and installers alike. We can also include contact numbers, website details, and a developer or installer logo.

Our custom-designed covers are tailor-made, allowing functionality of the heat pump during testing, commissioning and operation. A consistent manufacturing process means we can deliver volume quantities.

Meet the founder

The idea behind the cover

I developed the concept for Heat Pump Covers to protect heat pumps while work is still taking place on new build and construction sites.

We produce and supply temporary protective covers for air-to-water heat pumps in the new build market, where government legislation is steering the sector towards low carbon technologies.

Each cover is made to measure. It fits over the heat pump to keep it clean from dirt and dust, and protects it from light damage while landscaping and final site work take place.

The heat pump will keep that home warm and supplied with hot water for years to come, so it should be presented at its very best. Covers also cut the time and labour needed to clean a unit before homeowners take possession.

Because every cover is tailor-made, the heat pump can still be tested, commissioned and run with the cover on.
